Each child should be encouraged to think creatively in order to solve problems.
Through developmentally appropriate activities in the classroom and extra-curricular courses each child should have the opportunity to seek solutions to problems and respect should be shown for his or her solutions.
The whole language approach provides each child with the opportunity to communicate the problem solving and thinking process with other children and adults.
The thinking skills a child uses to solve a problem are more important than the final solution proposed because, as children learn to solve problems, they apply this process to any new situations encountered.
Through concrete experiences which lead later to abstract thinking, each child can learn which solutions are better than others.
With practice in verbalizing and working out situations, each child's feelings of competence and self-esteem should be enhanced, thus developing intrinsic motivation ("I CAN"), the key to successful life-long learning.
